Joan J. Dennis

Joan J. Dennis of Bohemia, NY, died peacefully at home on September 14, 2021, at age 84. She is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy Dennis, who was at her side. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Robert Erick Dennis for 57 years and was a dear cousin, aunt, sister-in-law and friend.

Born and raised in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late William Farrar Johnston and Jule Siemssen Johnston.  Especially in the summers, they shared many treasured moments with family on Long Island.  Joan graduated from Bayside High School and earned her Associates Degree from SUNY Long Island Agricultural and Technical Institute at Farmingdale before working in advertising.

After being married, Joan and Bob moved to Long Island and settled in Bohemia in 1969. She became an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church until its closing and then a cherished community member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Great River.

Joan returned to work after raising Nancy and ultimately retired from the administrative offices of Connetquot School District.  For many years, she volunteered in the offices of Hospice of the South Shore (now part of Hospice Care Network).

Known for being an avid arts-and-crafts woman, Joan crocheted, quilted, created wreaths and more.  She had fun traveling with her family and friends, playing golf and cheering on the Mets.  She will be dearly missed.
