Ella had a fantastic sense of humor. I will never forget her laugh, her smile and our times sitting on the couch talking and waiting for Bobby to get ready. Some people just connect as if they have known one another forever. When you were around Julia you felt that way. She made you feel special, calm and comfortable. Julia was strong, hard working, and selfless. The way she took care of Madeline and Bob for over 60 years was amazing. At first i would call Bob during the week to talk about a trade the Yankees made or something to do about sports. We would talk on my way home from work and i would always ask him what he was eating for dinner. Spaghetti and Meatballs, Ziti, Rice and beans. All of these great meals. I would call back another day and the same. It became the starting point for ever other conversation because what he was having was better than what i was having every night. Julia was a great cook! Steadfast, on time and diligent. I will never forget having to move her car and trip over a stack of pillows on the seat. They were there so she could see over the steering wheel. How, when she drove away you could barely see the top of her head. I would ask is she going to be OK nervously ? She was 86 or 87 and still driving. Julia had a great sense of style as well. Always dressed up and encouraging Bob to do the same. One time she told Bob. Bobby if you don't wear dress pants Jeff is not going to want to go to Dinner and a Movie with you dressed like a bum. I said Bob not true its fine i am wearing shorts or jeans. :) We all go through life and lose people that we love. Julia was more than someone that we loved. She was the Matriarch of the Colon Family who made an indelible mark on all of us set by her love and by devout her example.

From the first time i met her over 60 years ago she treated me with love and kindness as if i were one of the family. That continued over all the years. She was a wonderful woman and we are all better off being touched by her.
