Lubomir "Lou" Kochanskyj

Lubomir (Lou) Kochanskyj was born 3 November 1947 in Panana, Brazil, son of Waldomyr Kochanskyj and Melania Stadnik. He emigrated to the United States in 1957 with his parents and later became a U.S. citizen in 1968.

Lou attended St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic school on 7th Street in New York City after graduation attended St. Basil’s Preparatory school in Stamford, CT.

Lou met his wife Bonnie at the A & P on 5th Street in New York City in 1965. They were married 10 September 1966 at St. George’s Church. They moved to Center Moriches, NY from Brooklyn, NY in 1971 and lived there until they retired. They then moved to Kissimmee, FL and then later lived in Clifton Park, NY before returning to the island in 2015.

Lou worked in the Food retail business for many years, then later worked for the Town of Brookhaven Highway Department for 20 years until he retired in 2006.

Lou was a volunteer fireman with the Fire Police and Ambulance Company in the Center Moriches  Department for 30 years.

He was the sole proprietor for his sports collectible shop “Lou’s Dugout” in Center Moriches, then later in East Moriches.

Lou is survived by his wife Bonnie of 53 years; four sons: Lubomir Walter Kochanskyj; David (Candice) Kochanskyj of Center Moriches, NY; Joseph (Melinda) Kochanskyj of Clifton Park, NY and Stephen (Tara) Kochanskyj of Center Moriches, NY. Also 6 grandchildren; Kyle, Lola, Jake, Evan, Austin and Harlee. Also survived by his mother, Malania Kochanskyj of Manorville, NY. Lou is predeceased by his father Waldomyr Kochanskyj, brother Bohdan Kochanskyj and sister Darka Kochanskyj Reilly.
