Maria D. Young

d. May 12, 2020

Maria Denise Young was born on May 30th, 1957. Her mother was Louise Beatrice Mckenzie and her father was Dr. Reginald Mckenzie. Maria was the third born child out of 11 siblings. She has three children. Steven Mckenzie, Monique Young, and Malinca Young. She also has a loving husband Lincoln Young to whom she was Married to for 26 years. Maria was an incredibly involved mother. She was always there when you needed her. She loved all her children and would do anything she could to help when she could. All she wanted was for them to be happy and she would encourage anything they wanted to be and be there no matter what. She’d always say I love you infinity and will never ever stop. She is survived by four sisters Regina McKenzie, Gisella McKenzie, Natasha Walker and Tamara McKenzie and one brother Raoul McKenzie and a host of nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. As a child Maria was the tomboy of the family. If someone messed with any of her siblings Maria or her older sister Iona were there to “handle” matters. She was someone that her siblings and friends looked to for guidance. She was a part of a dance group with some of her sisters and close friends. She was an amazing dancer and loved to dance. Sometimes her dance group would perform at local parties and clubs. Growing up in such a large family was fun and at times adventurous. During her teenage years, her father acquired a trailer home in a resort called Tall Timbers. Maria especially loved going to tall timbers and frequently told stories about how much fun it was. At tall Timbers she was Always laughing and thinking of games to play. She was a country girl at heart. She would sit around the campfire at night telling stories. She was close to her siblings and made sure that every year or every other year she planned a trip to Florida to see them. She really enjoyed St. Augustine, Tampa, and Winter Haven Florida. she loved pools more than the ocean because she couldn’t swim, she loved the clouds in Florida she’d say, “wow look at those fluffy clouds they look like cotton balls”. Florida was one of her favorite states to visit. Maria was recently retired. She was a hardworking woman. She worked for New York State and hated to be late and never liked to call in sick. She went to Suffolk county community college around 2005 to pursue a degree in nursing. She worked extremely hard and her children are so proud of her for going back to school. She did not finish but her hard work is noted. She was a very energetic person who loved to connect with her family, friends, and coworkers and she was an active member of the first United Methodist church. She really enjoyed the company of her church family. Throughout her 20 years of going to The first United Methodist church in Central Islip she has been going to bible study, choir practice, she was a member of the board of Trustees and she even tried out being a Sunday school teacher but teaching rambunctious three year old’s proved to be more challenging then it looked! She wholeheartedly believes in Jesus Christ and that she would be with him when the time came. Everyone who met Maria loved her. Her positive energy and smile were contagious. She will never be forgotten.

Dear mommy,

I love you so much. You gave me an amazing childhood. You were always there when I needed someone. I never needed anything, and I always felt safe. You are my support system and always will be. I am so glad that I came back home from Florida. Me you daddy and Malinca had an amazing Christmas. I am glad you got to pick out your white Christmas tree lol. I am going to miss your smile and your laugh and your energy. You are always happy and find the beauty in small things. Like when you go on the plane you get so excited to sit next to the window and you love pools and train rides and watching Ellen’s game of games. You are an amazing person I have watched you all my life treat people with kindness and genuine care. That is why everyone loves you when they meet you. I will keep your spirit alive by following your example. I promise not to let this harden my heart. I will live my life to the fullest. I know you will always be with me. I know you want me to be happy. I have so much I want to say to you, but words can’t describe how much of an amazing mother you are, I love you infinity and will never ever stop.

Love Nikki
