Learning of Marietta’s passing, I am shocked and deeply saddened. Some of my fondest childhood memories are those of my time spent with my dear cousin. Born only a few months apart, Marietta and I had an almost twin-like relationship. Her parents, my Aunt Annie and Uncle Sam, frequently included me in their family’s activities, and I often got to spend entire days and nights with Marietta at their child-centered home. As children, Marietta and I were both ridiculously quiet, cautious, and obedient children, but together we harnessed the courage to explore our world and even be a bit mischievous…..totally out of character for each of us alone. Although Marietta projected a reserved demeanor, I knew her to have a great sense of humor, a willingness to try new things, a love for learning, and a gentle playfulness about her. She was an independent, out-side-the-box thinker with more confidence than was immediately apparent. Marietta and her wonderful parents had a huge impact upon my life. Tom and I offer our love and sincere condolences to the family.

I worked with Marietta for many years! She was a ray of sunshine everyday! Her warmth and genuine love of life was obvious! Two pieces of advice she gave me that I still laugh over to this day are: First, you should always try and eat well. But if you need to cheat, do it big, all in one day. Go nuts! Your body can only absorb so much of it and it will pass the rest. And second, if you are having a bad day at school overall, or if you have a particularly challenging student, take your salary and divide it by the number of days you work or the number of students you have and it will get you through!! :) Truly saddened to hear of her passing. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all! xo
