I worked with Dr.Chauhan during the pandemic. It was a privilege to see such a kind, loving, and empathetic person. It was a joy working next to him. All the residents would surround him and felt comfortable around him. He would deal with everyone around him with humility. I was not super close to him but worked with him many times and he still comes up to mind. A soul the world misses.

I was a medical student at Jamaica Hospital in 2000. During my internal med rotation, I had the privilege of being taught by Dr. Chauhan. I cant find enough kind words to describe this man, always smiling, encouraging us, and teaching us all the pearls we needed to succeed. It's because of attendings like him that I became the doctor that I am today. I will always remember Dr. Chauhan for his willingness to share his knowledge with me. He will never be forgotten. RIP.

Dear Dr. Chauhan was my beloved respectful teacher and mentor while I completed residency at Jamacia Hospital from 1998 to 2001. Dr. Chauhan was THE BEST attending physician during that time and probably in the history of Jamacia Hospital residency program who always treated interns/residents as his colleagues with respect and dignity- he used to address his interns/residents as “ DOCTOR SAHIB “ a respectful way to address a senior doctor but he used to address his juniors same way. Dr. Chauhan used to tell his interns and residents during the weekend rounds after overnight admissions that you please go home and take rest as you are tired as you worked very hard during the overnight on call shift and I will round on these patients and take care of them - during that time Dr. Chauhan used to work as an intern, resident and attending by himself - AN AMAZING QUALITY. He was a very down to earth, humble, NICE and KNOWLEDGEABLE doctor and human being hard to find in this day and age. I learned a lot from him, how you can be a good doctor and human being also. We have lost a great teacher, exceptional doctor and your loss will be felt for ever. A good heart has stopped beating, a beautiful soul, full of love and faith, ascended to heaven, away from us but closer to God, leaving loneliness and sadness. We will miss you. May our Lord bless and comfort you and your family during this time of grief. Please accept our sincere condolences. Dr. Sudheer Chauhan (uncle as I call him). He was a father figure to me. He was an amazing, gentle, kind hearted, beautiful person. He was the Epitone of patience and an encyclopedia of knowledge, not only an incredible and dedicated physician but an incredible human being as well. It was an honor to know you in this life. I learnt so much from you. Your patient and calm nature was an extraordinary quality that is so rare in todays day and age. You were a gem of a person. Too nice for this world. It breaks my heart into a million pieces to realize that he is no longer with us in person, but he will always live in my heart. No words can describe this great loss. His Untimely death due to COVID-19 is it true tragedy. I wish there was a way to reverse this tragedy. My deepest condolences for his daughters and wife. May his soul rest in peace.

I am a Social Work Supervisor at Jamaica Hospital. I had the privilege of working with Dr Chauhan for the past 13 + years. Not only did I get to experience his patience, his kindness, and brilliance as a teaching Attending. But several years ago I had an injury to my shoulder and was working for over a week in absolute agony. My Director called Dr Chauhan and asked if he would see me right away. In the midst of his very busy day seeing patients in his office, he took the time to examine me and provide treatment that would allow me some relief. I don’t know how he found enough hours in a day to treat, to teach, to listen, to care, and to also be a family man. But he did it with ease, without complaint, with a calm and soothing presence. He will be tremendously missed. He he irreplaceable. He broke the mold. My deepest condolences to the Chauhan family, especially his wife and daughters. Rest In Peace. And thank you.

I'm a close friend of Dr. Chauhan's daughter, Vandana. For years I've heard so much about Dr. Chauhan - how much he cared about his family, gave himself to others, was always there for his wife and daughters, and made sure to give everyone in his life special attention. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times, including the honor of attending Vandana's graduation ceremony with him in 2015, and sharing his pride and joy in that moment. He was an extraordinary man gone far too soon, but with a life well lived. He will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.

I had the honor and pleasure of knowing Dr. Chauhan during my residency 2003-2006. He was an amazing physician, a very learned person, and yet very modest. He was what one would call an 'ideal doctor'. I would often see him work till quite late at the hospital. His patients adored him as did we, the residents. He never lost his cool even in the most difficult of circumstances. May his soul rest in peace.

He should've had many more years amongst us but then they say those who are noble, God calls them early. We miss him but perhaps, god needed him more. We are very shocked to know of the unexpected and untimely demise of Dr Chauhan. He was the most humble and dedicated physician who constantly inspired me during my residency in Jamaica Hospital from 2005-2008 and since then I have been practicing in Virginia. We all residents have gained immense knowledge from him and he would always say ‘sab theek hojayega’ . Both myself and my children will never forget his humbleness and modesty and his medical expertise. People who have been trained by him will carry on his legacy of selfless service and I have strived to continue legacy of great teachers like you since 2008. Our prayers for the departed soul and deepest sympathies for the family- Dr Mrs Chauhan and and Dr Roli , Dr Vandana and Dr Sneh, and all loved ones , ... and also Jamaica Hospital program family. We all, the family, friends and students are devastated and destroyed by sudden demise of Dr. Chauhan. I joined Jamaica residency program in 2008 after completing my 3 years of surgical residency and 2 years of practice in general surgery in India. Therefore, Internal medicine was new to me and I was weak in it. Dr Chauhan was my mentor in first year in residency. I didn't do well in first annual internal assessment, therefore he told me personally that you better pay attention to the medicine otherwise it will be difficult to you. At that time, I was thinking to get surgical residency. But that timely and fatherly advice stuck to my heart. From that day onwards, I paid all my attention to the IM residency program and quit the dream of surgical residency. Thereafter, I kept improving my knowledge and skill in clinical medicine and exam. After few months, he told me, " Prakash, I am proud of you, you are doing very good". I finished my residency and joined Hepatology fellowship in New Jersey, and that was our last meeting. He said "why don't want you to stay in Internal Medicine, what is bad of it". I kept his advice. I regret that I should have met him afterwards in last 6 years but I took granted that he will be here forever. But it seems that the God has other plan for him to serve his nobility in ethereal world and he untimely took him away from us. I will always cherish his teaching, love and work ethics. May God rest his soul in peace and give strength to the family during this difficult time. Love you, Sir, Forever Prakash Chand, MD IM and Transplant Hepatology.

Words ring hollow trying to describe the enormity of the loss we have suffered with the passing of Dr Chauhan. He was truly extraordinary, not only as a physician, but also as a teacher and as a mentor. Mine is among the countless lives he changed for the better. He was a beautiful human being and I miss him dearly.

Dr. Chauhan was a great teacher, amazing personality to work with during my residency from MD internal medicine from 2008-2011. His tremendous support to me personally during that time was unforgivable. Our family including my wife Tejal, kids Dhruv and Kush did everyday morning and evening prayers for his better health since we heard news about him for his admission in ICU at Jamaica Medical center. We will continue to do prayers for him and his family to our Lord Swaminarayan and Swami to give strength and courage to family to pass through this difficult time. Our condolence to his family. We will do personally "Special Nilkanth Abhishek" to BAPS Robbinsville, NJ temple for his great soul when temple will open. I shared his great compliements to me on 06/21/2011 and our 2008-2011 class graduation picture. Dr. Gaurav Patel Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Specialist West Chester, PA 19382,

When news of Dr.Chauhan"s passing became known in Jamaica Hospital , anywhere you turned, there were people crying - in the hallways, ER, nursing stations , the wards. It felt that the whole hospital is crying and it was. I said it for years that Dr.Chauhan was the best physician that I have ever met and I am saying it today. To be a great doctor it takes so much more than just medical knowledge and clinical skills - it needs a real character, compassion, dedication, being humble and true love to what you do . Dr.Chauhan had it all ! He is one of a kind and just by being who he was he tought , inspired and influenced so many of us. Very few people leave such a mark in this world with their lives. Dr. Chauhan ! You will be be missed very much but your legacy will live forever and with time will only become greater. Dr.Emil Silberman, ER Attending, Jamaica Hospital

Dr. Chauhan was is the first Attending I ever worked with as a resident. He set the bar extremely high for expectations of other attendings and drove and pushed myself to be the best that I could be. He was a selfless man and wanted the best for everyone. When I Applied for fellowship, I had an interview at a program where the program director was his resident about 15 years ago. I told Dr. Chauhan About this and he told me he would take care of it. The day of the interview, the program director walked out and said to me. “Hello, I just spoke to Dr Chauhan on the phone this morning. He said good things about you for about 10 to 15 minutes.” He did not have to do that for me, and I am very grateful for this. To know that Dr Chauhan did not allow his residents to come see Covid patients while he went in the room is not something that surprised me. This is a noble thing to do and certainly a characteristic of Dr. Chauhan. You will forever be missed sir, you have made a huge impact on the medical community. RIP, my condolences to his family and everyone that knew him. He is in God’s hands now.

He was the one who believed in you and treated everyone the same I remember one time in the round he asked us , " how big do you like your family to be ?." I replied small family because I can't tolerate the loss of my loved ones. He said " we are all here temporary , every one will go one day , only God knows when, a big family is better because you always have lots of memories to share and have more loved ones to care for you" I never forget his kind smile I have lost one of my dearest family member and is heartbreaking....his memory lives on.... Dr. Chauhan was the kindest and most caring person I have ever seen. He was one of the busiest doctor in Jamaica Hospital, his list will be full of patients to be seen in the hospital and would have many more patients scheduled in office for the afternoon. I have seen so many people came to him for medical or personal help- despite having busy day- I have seen him remembering about everyone of them and responding to their request without delay, the same way he would take care of his own family. He never lost his temper over anything. He was helping hand to all his colleagues. I have enjoyed life lessons given by him while eating peanuts in our doctors lounge. Words are not enough to describe his personality. Man and doctor like him is one in million.

Dear Dr. Chauhan was my beloved respectful teacher and mentor while I completed residency at Jamacia Hospital from 1998 to 2001. Dr. Chauhan was THE BEST attending physician during that time and probably in the history of Jamacia Hospital residency program who always treated interns/residents as his colleague with respect and dignity- he use to address his interns/residents as “ DOCTOR SAHIB “ a respectful way to address a doctor. Dr. Chauhan use to tell his interns and residents during the weekend rounds after overnight admission that you please go home and take rest as you are tired as you worked very hard during the overnight on call shift and I will round on these patients and take care of them - during that time Dr. Chauhan use to work as an intern, resident and attending by himself - AN AMAZING QUALITY. He was a very down to earth, humble, NICE and KNOWLEDGEABLE doctor and human being hard to find in this day and in spite. I learned a lot to learn from him how you can be a good doctor and human being also. We will miss him. Our condolences and prayers for the family. God Bless You. His medial knowledge in theoretical and practical aspect helped me to gain vast medical knowledge. He was not the best teacher but he was the best human being difficult to find nowadays. Prayers for his family.

Dedication to a life of service. That is what I will remember about my uncle. He proved his dedication every day of his life. When my cousin was getting married, all the family members traveled to India to celebrate the joyous occasion. During the entire trip, cousins and relatives spent the time catching up and making memories. One relative in particular was in his early eighties and suffered from Alzheimer's disease. He kept to himself and his wife, often in a state of confusion. While my uncle could have taken this small vacation as a respite from his doctoral duties, he chose to stay by the elderly man's side and provide him care and comfort. For my uncle, his job was not a laborious task but a privilege he took seriously. Such a commitment to helping others is rare, and my uncle exemplified that commitment to the fullest. Truly an inspirational man.
