William J. Dowd

William J. Dowd of Hauppauge, NY passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019. He was predeceased by his loving wife Joan T. Dowd and is survived by his children Kathleen M. Dowd of Hauppauge, NY and William M. Dowd (Barbara) of Manakin Sabot, VA; his grandchildren Wes Dowd (Heather) of Moscow, ID and Monica McDearmon (Mac) of Richmond, VA; and three great granddaughters (Margaret, Meredith, and Caitlin).

Affectionately known as “Uncle Bill” and “Pa”, he was born in Floral Park, NY and lived his entire life on Long Island. He served in the U.S. Army in occupied Japan where he was able to continue to enjoy his life-long passion, playing baseball. An overhand thrower with a sharp breaking curve-ball, he brought his experience to bear coaching youth baseball in Commack, NY for many years. At his 90th birthday he was asked the secret to a long and happy life and he said he was always “blessed with a wonderful family”.
